Vakumar Vacuum Sealer Not Working? 5 DIY Fixes for Poor Suction & Leaky Seals
Is your Vakumar vacuum sealer struggling to remove air or create strong seals? Before you replace it, try these professional troubleshooting solutions that cost little to nothing!
1. Weak Vacuum? Check These First
Common Causes:
-
Clogged air intake filter
-
Worn vacuum pump
-
Improper bag placement
Quick Fixes:
✔ Clean the foam filter (usually under the lid) with warm, soapy water
✔ Clear the vacuum channel using compressed air or a toothpick
✔ Ensure bags fully cover the suction area (overhang by 2-3 inches)
Pro Tip: Test suction by sealing an empty bag—if it works, your food may be too moist
2. Seal Failures? Replace or Fix the Seal Bar
Signs You Need a New Seal Bar:
-
Inconsistent seals
-
Visible cracks or burns
-
Plastic residue buildup
DIY Solutions:
➊ Deep clean the seal bar with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab
➋ Adjust seal time (4-5 seconds for thick bags)
➌ Replace the heat strip (Amazon/eBay, $10-$20) - Vakumar models use standard 8mm strips
Warning: Unplug before cleaning or repairs!
3. Liquid Getting Sucked Into Machine?
Emergency Rescue:
-
Immediately unplug the unit
-
Blow out liquid with a hair dryer (cool setting)
-
Let dry 24+ hours before reuse
Prevent Future Leaks:
-
Pre-freeze liquids until slushy
-
Use Vakumar's liquid-block bags (textured interior)
-
Seal at a 45° angle
4. Bags Won't Stay in Place?
Instant Solutions:
🔹 Fold the bag end before inserting for a better grip
🔹 Upgrade to non-slip bags (look for "grip lock" versions)
🔹 Replace worn chamber seals (affects older Vakumar models)
5. Old Machine? Last-Chance Revival Tricks
For Vakumar sealers over 3 years old:
✅ Replace vacuum pump oil (if model has a service port)
✅ Check hose connections for cracks
✅ Reset the machine by unplugging it for 1 hour
When to Upgrade:
-
If repairs cost >50% of a new unit
-
If you smell burning plastic
-
If error lights persist

Model VH5186 won’t open after sealing. It seals fine but will not open for up to 10 minutes! It is not usable. We just bought this unit last year and used it for about 10 hours. When this machine worked it was the best one we have used but this is not acceptable. I look forward to your response. Thank you.
